Job Title: Finance & Operations Manager

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Reporting Line: Managing Director

Our client, an Investment Firm, seeks to hire a strategic professional with a strong business and financial acumen to fill the role of Finance & Operations Manager in their organization.

The role holder will manage the finance, accounting and the entire operations function handling a back office with many transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Implementation-Contribute to strategy implementation by way of Supporting performance management through the designing of Financial KPIs and other performance metrics;
  • Budget Management- Support the budgeting process to come up with P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash flow, supported by in-depth sensitivity analysis of assumptions;
  • Management Reporting-Carry out period end check list procedures, GL validation and reconciliations to compile, analyse and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts for presentation to the management and during BRM meetings;
  • Decision Making-Support Information based decision making by the board and Management by carrying out continuous forecasting and presentation of financial performance;
  • Compliance-Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses, assets and liabilities in the GL as per internal policies and in adherence to IFRSs.
  • Audit Management- Prepare annual statutory accounts for audit and subsequent filing with CMA and the Registrar of Companies. Liaise and collaboratively work with the Internal audit department to ensure that all outstanding Internal audit issues are closed off;
  • Statutory Obligation-Oversee and ensure accurate assessment of all taxes and adherence to tax filing deadlines for all transactional taxes i.e. withholding tax, VAT, Income Tax and payroll taxes and deductions such as PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, NITA;
  • Unit Funds Reporting: Compile and analyse financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly, quarterly and annual accounts for the company Unit Trust Funds. Ensure portfolio valuation in the GL is accurate and reconciling with Custodian Trustee records, Fund Management system/software (APX) on a monthly basis. Prepare and submit to CMA quarterly financial statements for the unit funds ensuring fund reporting deadlines are met;
  • CMA Reporting: Prepare and submit to CMA quarterly financial statements for the unit funds as well as the company’s quarterly financial information reports. Prepare and submit the company monthly risk-based capital adequacy reports to CMA. Monitor CMA liquid capital requirements and ensure all CMA reporting deadlines are met;
  • Operational Controls: Act as a custodian of the firm and Unit funds operating and financial policies, processes, and procedures. Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of the ICS its updating considering the dynamic business environment while at the same time safeguarding the resources of the firm and unit funds;
  • Admin Operations-Effectively maintain a strict oversight on Client Management, Trades Management, Records Management, Financial Management, Compliance and Risk Management and Reporting. Carry out general operations duties such as procurement, premises administration, Security, Board meetings preparation, fixed assets register.
  • Finance Operations- Manage the finance and accounting functions of the business which includes; receivables & payables management, treasury/cash management, taxation management and financial reporting as well as ensuring high levels of compliance to accounting principles and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business Related field preferably Bachelors in Commerce;
  • A chartered Accountant/ CPA (K);
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience with at least two (2) years’ experience in a managerial position;
  • Experience in handling a back office with many transactions;
  • Excellent business reporting skills and fluency in use of Excel, PowerPoint and experience with financial modelling;
  • Experience in SAP;
  • Deep understanding of financial statements and regulatory filings;
  • Great attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and be able to fit into a multi-cultural, entrepreneurial, mission driven and highly demanding work environment;
  • Background experience from Asset/Fund Management Firms is preferred;
  • Strong quantitative skills, aptitude with a demonstrated capability for analysis and strategic thinking.
