Position: General Manager

Gross Salary: USD 12,000 – USD 16,500

Our client in the Mining, Construction industry seeks to hire a qualified and competent General Manager to provide strategic input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization as well as the daily management of the company inclusive of operations, customers, governmental bodies and communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, permits, lenders, grant provider etc. as applicable.
  • Develop strategies, visions and ambitions for the company.
  • Provide strategic input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization.
  • Analyze and make recommendations on the impact of long range growth initiatives, planning, and introduction of new strategies and regulatory actions.
  • Delegation of authority to subordinates to achieve company deliverables, review and approval.
  • Identify and report significant, commercial, financial, legal, and personnel issues, and develop appropriate measures to address these.
  • Communicate effectively and establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board of Directors as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Deliver cost effective and efficient business processes and organizational structure to facilitate optimum performance.
  • Act as a strategic advisor and consultant offering expert advice on contracts, negotiations or business deals that the corporation may enter into.
  • Optimize the handling of banking relationships and work closely with CFO to foster and grow strategic financial partnerships.
  • Daily management of the company inclusive of operations, customers, governmental bodies and communities.
  • Act as a strategic partner by developing and implementing the company’s plans and programs.
  • Plan, develop, implement and direct the organization’s operational and fiscal function and performance.
  • Identify and report significant, commercial, financial, legal, and personnel issues, and develop appropriate measures to address these.
  • Work with the finance team to develop a solid cash flow projection and reporting mechanism, which includes setting a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.

Key Qualifications

  • Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Post-graduate/Master’s degree qualification.
  • Experienced engineer with background from the, Mining, Construction or Electricity sector.
  • An enthusiastic senior leader with a track record of achievements and ability to communicate, lead and motivate.
  • Extensive understanding of financial management and what drives results.
  • Commercial mind-set, change agent, innovator, technical knowhow and experience in industrial and infrastructure projects execution.
  • Appreciation of the infrastructure-related political environment.
  • Experience in developing and successfully implementing stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Someone with experience of working with highly regulated, complex organizations with multiple external and internal stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of Zambia and its culture and an ability to develop a team spirit and to identify talent.
