A Restaurant in Kiambu County seeks to hire an experienced Chef, with management skills and in preparation of Continental and African Dishes.

Reports to: Restaurant Manager

Role Objective: Manage all Kitchen operations from procurement of supplies to preparation of all meals (African & Continental dishes).


  • Costing and pricing of all food products
  • Oversee the preparation of all meals (African and continental dishes)
  • Develop and plan recipes and menus with team taking into consideration seasonal availability of ingredients
  • Ensure that kitchen staff follow proper hygiene practices at all times
  • Analyze recipe, assign prices to menu items, based on food, labor and overhead costs
  • Make requisition for supplies and equipment when required
  • Assist in recruitment of kitchen staff as required
  • Investigate complaints raised by customers in regard to food served in the restaurant
  • Check procured materials and cooked meals for quality and quantity
  • Prepare the kitchen staff Rota
  • Demonstrate the latest cooking techniques and use of equipment to all kitchen staff
  • Coordinate and supervise activities of all staff involved in food production
  • Help workers to resolve conflicts before they are escalated
  • Instruct kitchen staff in the preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food
  • Inspect kitchen facilities & equipment regularly to ensure compliance

Qualifications / Education

  • Diploma in Food Production
  • Good knowledge of food handling and storage procedure
  • Able to operate kitchen equipment
  • Computer Skills

Person Specification

  • Mature , loyal, trustworthy and creative individual able to work under pressure
  • Excellent Communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Team player and problem solver with strong work ethics
